Overcoming my greatest enemy – OBESITY
I, Samson Mackinnon, born in an upper-middle-class family, had one of the best childhoods anyone could dream of. My mother and father worked hard to make sure that I got everything and more. There was never a day where food was of shortage and convenience was always at my arm’s length. Even though this life was a blessing, there was one dark shadow looming over it all. By the age of 19 luxury and technology-driven lethargy gave me a very serious side effect – obesity.
I weighed 180 Kgs and had a hip size of 58 inches, twice the size of a normal person of that age. I tried to lose weight time and time again by going to different gyms and different physical outlets, but to my disarray, I failed. At the age of 21 when I was doing my second year in college getting up in the morning felt like I was trying to move the whole world beneath me. I had reached such an extent that getting out of bed in the morning felt impossible.
Finally on 19 August 2012, I realized that this is not the way I wanted to live the rest of my life. I started working out in the bathroom because I was shy to exercise in front of my family and friends. After one month I started to see results. Even though it was only 2 kilos, it was still an accomplishment for me. Next, I borrowed my mother’s elliptical machine and placed it in front of my TV and used the machine twice a day while I was playing my favorite video game. A month later I lost 6 kilos which motivated me even more to study this field. During the third month, I had started my diet, said no to junk food and aerated drinks (which were the main cause of my obesity). It took one year for me to go down from 180 to 85 kilos.
In 2013 I had joined a local gym and trained there for 3 years. Even before finishing college, I knew that the gym would be the place that would symbolize me. Today there are three things that I cannot live without…. Fitness, Automobiles and Video Games.
I am proud of what I have achieved and I know that if a person like me can do it, anyone can. You can and you will! SAM’S GYM was born out of my life experience and I want to help everyone become fit and healthy through SAM’S GYM.
